Subject: YAESU FT50-R WIDEBAND TX/RX MOD Wideband TX/RX Mod for YAESU FT50-R Here is the wideband TX/RX mod for the Yaesu FT50-R dual band HT. After performing this mod on my radio the receive tuning range was 76.01 to 540.00 continuous, and the transmit tuning ranges were 120.62 to 221.99 and 320.00 to 499.99. 1. Following the instructions on page 4 of the manual, remove the numeric keypad. 2. Looking at the radio's circuit board below where the keypad was, locate three tiny solder pads right next to each other. Two of the pads have a solder bridge between them and the third one is not soldered. 3. Using a low wattage (preferably 25 watts or less) soldering iron with a fine tip and a piece of solder wick, VERY CAREFULLY remove the solder bridge from the two soldered pads. 4. Again following the instructions on page 4 of the manual, reinstall the numeric keypad reassemble the radio. 5. Reset the CPU (press and hold knob, mon and "F-W" while turning power on) I do not know how well these mods work if you get too far out of band, but my radio seems to work quite well within 20 mHz of the amateur bands. Also, if you are using the ADMS programming software for cloning or programming your radio, you will need to create a new template after the modification. You radio will no longer accept files from the unmodified configuration, although you can copy data from one template to the other.
