Bulletin: SA0110 Subject: Low Audio Drive To TS-440 The problem is that you all can't get your PK-232 to work with your TS-440 rigs when you use the ACC-2 jack on the back of the transceiver. It is a problem of voltage levels. The PK-232 book on page 1-2 gives a modem output level of 5 to 100 millivolts adjustable. The TS440 manual on page 11 says 500mv on ssb to deflect the ALC. The text actually says 500mv or less, but how much less? In short, if you want full power operation, your TS440 wants 0.5 volts of audio. Your PK-232 maximum audio is 0.1 volts. See the problem? The solution: Either build a preamp to bring that PK-232 level to .5 volts, or connect the audio from the PK-232 to the mic jack. I chose the latter. Be careful of RF getting into the mic circuits. Use lots of ferrite beads, and good shielding practice. de Dave, N2DS @ KC2AZ.NY
