Bulletin: YA9001 Model: Yaesu FT-900 Subject: Radio Intermittently Turning Off To all users of the FT900. I have finally fixed the intermitent problem that has plagued my FT900. Even after replacing the Micro Processor I still experienced the radio shutting off when it should not. Several times I noticed that it would shut down when tuning the frequency dial. I discovered that the wires inside the control head behind the dial were wraped around and through the data lines that go to the microprocessor. These very high imepeance MOS signals were crosstalking between the two cable assemblies which are unshielded wired (4 each) that are longer than they have to be for servicing the board. To fix the problem, unplug the 4 pin white cable plug behind the VFO dial. You will find them wrapped around the tuning dial and entertwined with the microprocessor cables. Reposition these wires by coiling them on the other side of the metal can that shields the VFO dial. To open the control head simply remove the six small screws on the back plate. After repositioning the wires I also pressed the reset switch to hopefully reset the control head logic. My FT900 has been very stable and has not exhibited any of the problems I had in the past. This information was passed on to Yaesu today and you may eventually hear it from them once they verify the problem is solved with this simple mod. I use my FT900 as part of my remote base so it is on 24 hours, therefore I may have notice the problem more often the most users. 73 to all! Robert Blumenkranz NI6R
