For more than 100 years the history of the Civil War has been studied. Within the last few years rivalry between both sides has finally subsided enough where the true story on the war's ending can now be told. Those of us who remember our high school history recall what was taught regarding the end of the Civil War. Remember, in many parts of the country where the sun shines regularly this was called the war between the states. Well friend, the end of the Civil War was actually this way. After chasing the Union Army all over the south, the exhausted Confederates pulled up to Appomattox, planning to wipe out the Yankees, march into Washington and raise the Stars and Bars over the White House. Now General Lee was resting in the Appomattox Courthouse when in walked General Grant ready to surrender. General Lee took the unimpressive Union General for an orderly and gave him his sword to polish. Astonished, Grant took the sword thinking General Lee had surrendered. Not wanting to embarrass General Grant for making such an obvious blunder, Lee let the incident pass without comment. So there you have it the history books are all wrong.
