A Hillbilly Repeater Anxious to see our relatives in Western North Carolina again, we timed our visit to coincide with the Western Carolina ARS Hamfest scheduled for the last Saturday in July near Waynesville, N.C. As we drove through the mountains surrounding Asheville, N.C., we were treated to an unforgettable country chuckle while listening to one of the Asheville Repeaters. An obviously young voice of a visiting Ham keyed up the Repeater and posed the question: "Say, what does T.G.I.F. mean, anyway?" Without hesitation, the response came from a seasoned, local country gentleman, who informed the young man: "...Well, around here, it means Toes-Go-In-First. The local Hams who use this Repeater have taken on the responsibility of teaching our country folks how to put their shoes on properly. After all, this is a Hillbilly Repeater..."
