PACKET MADE EASY 03 The object of these bulletins are to familiarize newcomers and veterans of packet to the end user part of packet without complicating it with the more technical aspects of packet. SENDING MESSAGES In Packet Made Easy 02 we went over sending bulletins. Now that you are familiar with this you may want to sent a personal message to someone via packet. REMEMBER any thing sent over packet MUST NOT VIOLATE FCC rules. Keeping this in mind you are ready to start. To send a message you should use a text editor or word processing program just as in sending bulletins to help in save air time at the local level. Now let move on to the mechanics of sending a bulletin. To enter a message you will use the command S or SP, and address it something like S or SP KC4DPC @ N4CCK or if you know the address of the the BBS that you are sending the message to you would SP KC4DPC @ N4CCK.#ILMNC.NC.USA.NA this help in routing. Next you will want to enter the subject. This should be the QTH of the home BBS of the person the message is being sent to. In my case the subject would be Wilmington, NC., this also helps in routing. End with a CONTROL Z. EXAMPLE: SP KC4DPC @ N4CCK.#ILMNC.NC.USA.NA (ENTER) Wilmington, NC (ENTER) TEXT OF MESSAGE (transfer from word processor) ONE VERY IMPORTANT POINT TO REMEMBER *** KEEP YOUR MESSAGE BETWEEN 2000 TO 3000 BYTES *** EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO SEND IT IN TWO PARTS. You may be operating at 2400 or 1200 buad but keep in mind that your message will be going on HF at 300 buad. A message more that more than 3000 bytes may cause a bottleneck at a HF station. At best it will slow all traffic down and will probably be killed at that point. Packet Made Easy 04 will be on BBS use. 73 Stanley KC4DPC @ N4CCK.#ILMNC.NC.USA.NA
